First Half of Trade Fair Year 2013
For Messe Frankfurt, the first six months of the 2013 trade fair year were very successful indeed. Wolfgang Marzin: "Capacity utilisation at our Frankfurt base was very good and our stable core business was at a high level." He added that a number of key figures had been significantly higher than those of previous years' events, with an ever-higher level of international participation and outstanding visitor quality. The CEO was also very satisfied with the company's international business, which in some cases yielded double-digit growth rates for both visitors and exhibitors. Furthermore, the Frankfurt exhibition grounds are well booked in the second half of the financial year, with both Group and guest events scheduled to be held there. Three new Group events - Ecostyle, Webchance and "Zukunft Lebensräume" - are due to make their début in Frankfurt. November will also see a new, high-calibre guest event being held in Frankfurt for the first time: EWEA Offshore Frankfurt is the world's largest conference and exhibition centring on the supply and value chain in the offshore wind energy sector. For the year as a whole, CFO Klaus Münster-Müller expects sales to remain stable while profits increase; he then expects sales to increase again in 2014 owing to the rotating events being held that year.
"Messe Frankfurt 2020" -
Strategic Route for Further Growth
Wolfgang Marzin explained the company's strategic objective for the coming years: "Our company concept is a winning one and we are constantly working on new ways to enhance it." In the "Messe Frankfurt 2020" agenda, the company set medium- and long-term goals: "We build on proven foundations, modify them as required and keep a close eye on new developments." In Frankfurt, the focus is therefore on further strengthening our exhibition venue and improving capacity utilisation at our exhibition grounds by increasing event density and expanding its convention business. With the construction of the additional Kap Europa congress centre, Messe Frankfurt is expanding the facilities it offers for conventions, conferences and other events. One year before opening, bookings and reservations have already been made for 2014 and for subsequent years - including for scientific conventions, association conferences and company events.
By keeping standards high and making further investments in events, infrastructure and in the growing range of services, Messe Frankfurt aims to safeguard its quality and its global growth in the long term. Wolfgang Marzin: "We want to continue growing in clearly defined business segments and growth fields." For Messe Frankfurt, this involves strengthening both its product range and its portfolio of trade fairs. Its key target markets outside Germany include China, Russia, Dubai and India. It also aims to step up its activities in Turkey, where Automechanika Istanbul has been held with growing success since 2001. Thanks to the fast-growing exhibitor and visitor count, this event is now scheduled to take place every year starting next year.
In order to safeguard Messe Frankfurt's long-term future, Marzin is aiming for sustainable profitability both internally and externally. With the further harmonisation and synchronisation of internal processes and management systems, organisational control measures are to be optimised as well. Marzin: "Our programme for optimising organisation worldwide and, in turn, boosting in-house efficiency in Frankfurt is up and running."
