Holtmann treats itself to a
new partner for its 60th birthday
''Our company celebrates its 60th birthday this year. The right time to think about the future,'' says Claus Holtmann, Managing Partner of Holtmann Messe+Event, one of Germany´s leading service providers for exhibition construction services. The intention of NürnbergMesse to enter new business fields as part of its Strategy 2020 fitted in well. ''Our customers expect an integrated approach. This includes the right exhibition concepts as well as the right presentation and the relevant services,'' says Managing Director Bernd A. Diederichs, describing the incentive for becoming a 50-per-cent partner of Holtmann. The joint goal is to continue growing. At the existing location in Langenhangen and at the new location in Nürnberg - with innovative individual stands and smart system solutions.
There are some 500 exhibition construction companies in Germany. Why Holtmann in particular? ''We searched very thoroughly, and found the best,'' laughs Peter Ottmann, Member of the Management Board of NürnbergMesse and together with his colleague Dirk Blum responsible for the partnership between NürnbergMesse and Holtmann. Claus Holtmann adds: ''We have now known each other personally for more than two years and have established that we share the same goals and above all the same values. This is the best basis for a successful joint future.'' This development is fully supported by the second managing partner Jürgen Holtmann, who is withdrawing for private reasons and moving to the supervisory board of Holtmann. This connection between an exhibition organizer and an exhibition construction company was set up by Fair Relations GmbH. Holtmann´s regular customers include small and medium enterprises as well as large concerns. Some 30% of the contracts in the form of exhibition presentations and events are currently executed at the Hanover location, 40% at other German exhibition centres and 30% at European and overseas exhibition centres. There are also projects in the segments of experience worlds, world exhibitions, shop-in-shop and corporate architecture. ''For our existing customers, this partnership means that Holtmann will be even more firmly positioned as service provider in the future. We also look forward to realizing growth potentials at the Nürnberg location and at the NürnbergMesse subsidiaries in North America, Brazil, China and Italy,'' says Claus Holtmann, who will continue to manage the company together with his two management colleagues Frank Peschutter and Michael Podubrin.
NürnbergMesse becomes 50-per-cent partner
Through its partnership with Holtmann, NürnbergMesse intends to more than double its revenues in the Exhibition Services segment to around 50 million euros in the medium term. Holtmann with over 80 employees has previously already produced revenues of some 20 million euros in good years. ''We are naturally pleased about this additional revenue, but more important is the opportunity in the future to offer our customers not only the right stand space but their complete exhibition presentation and so appreciably expand our service. Holtmann is the right partner for this because the colleagues can do both: celebrate individual brand presentations but also provide low-cost system stands,'' says Rolf Keller, Member of the Management Board of NürnbergMesse, in whose business unit the Holtmann partnership is located. Holtmann has been one of the three ServicePartners for stand construction at the Nürnberg exhibition centre since April 2009. This situation will not change in the future either, as customers are to profit from healthy competition on the exhibition site.
German industry relies
on international exhibitions in Germany
According to AUMA, the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry, an average of around 20% of a company´s costs for exhibiting at all exhibitions are attributed to the stand rental and other basic costs like energy supply. Another almost 40% are needed for the construction, equipment and design of the stand. The remaining good 40% are used for personnel and travel expenses, service on the exhibition stand (e.g. catering) and other costs. According to FAMAB, the Verband Direkte Wirtschaftskommunikation (Association for Direct Business Communications), the companies spent appreciably less on exhibitions and events in 2009 compared with the previous year, which is not surprising in view of the declining economic crisis. FAMAB expects the level reached to remain steady in the present year 2010 and a return to growth in 2011.
So there is basically no doubt about the effectiveness of exhibitions. A current survey by AUMA shows that the German industry, which with 59,000 exhibitors a year provides almost half of all exhibitors at international exhibitions in Germany and occupies some two-thirds of the stand space, continues to rely on exhibitions as a communication and sales instrument. The exhibition budget accounts for an average share of 44% of the total marketing and communication budget of these companies. This is the highest figure ever determined in an AUMA_Trade Fair Trend survey. Each of these companies plans to be present at an average 8.3 exhibitions in Germany and abroad at a cost of some 345,000 euros. More than 80% of this budget flows into exhibiting in Germany, which thus retains its leading position as by far the most important and most international exhibition country in the world.
